Prophylaxis (Teeth Cleaning)

Prophylaxis, a thorough cleaning of the teeth and gums, is an important procedure in maintaining proper health of the oral cavity and stopping the progression of gingivitis and periodontal disease. Benefits of prophylaxis include:

  • Plaque Removal

Tartar and plaque buildup above and below the gum line can result in serious problems, and it’s impossible to remove the bacteria, debris, and deposits from gum pockets with a home hygiene routine alone.

  • Harmful Buildup

Specialized equipment and the trained eye of a dentist or hygienist is required to remove all of the potentially harmful buildup.

  • Healthier Looking Smile

Prophylaxis can remove signs of staining and yellowness, exposing your brightest smile.

  • Fresher Breath

Halitosis (or bad breath) is generally a sign of periodontal disease, caused by gangrene that stems from infection. Routine and professional removal of plaque, tartar, and bacteria can improve bad breath and ultimately reduce infection.

We recommend receiving prophylaxis treatment twice per year, or every three to four months for patients with periodontitis. We recommend visiting Ehsan Rezvan DDS, MS for your prophylaxis treatment as we would be familiar with the history of your periodontal disease. While gum disease cannot be entirely reversed, prophylaxis can effectively halt its progression.
